We have a ferret (Chin Soon) who goes into random fits
of what sounds like choking. It turned out she has a
partially collapsed trachea. Our vet at the time
basically said not to do anything about it unless she
starts having problems breathing as it is not
something easily corrected. It mostly happens when
she gets super excited (and this is our super wired
weasel) but I've seen her wake up, yawn, and start to
make choking sounds. I wonder if your situation is
similar. It's certainly worth a vet visit to find
out.
FWIW, Chin Soon has been this way since we adopted
her. She was 11 months old at the time.
Please, if you find out what is going on, do post it
to the list.
All the best,
Caity and the fantastic five

I know this sounds weird, but I have a ferret that around his eyes and on
his skin is turning blue. He is a rescue that I got in about 3 weeks ago. He was
close to starvation. We started him out on mush, (k/d, duck soup, and baby
food) He has also got the yuck thats going around. So my vet started him on
the amoxi drops, and I have been doing the ferret rx.
Since I have had him, he has gained 9 0zs, is a lot more active, starting to
play, he eats good on his own, his poos are fine, (checked for parasites, it
was negative), he is no longer dehydrated. He seems to be doing great.
We notice around the eye lid a slight shade of blue, now its has spread to
where most of the face is blue, the skin on the top of his feet have turned
blue. Now the gums look good, and so do the pads on his feet.
We are stumped on this one. Does any one have a thought of what this might
be. Please does anyone know what this could be or what needs to be done?
