Hi all
I have four ferrets currently, two male and two female. They are all between
2 and 3 years old. All appear healthy, happy and playful. One of the males
has gained a good bit of weight in the last few months, and now is quite
plump. He appears to feel ok, and still plays with the other ferrets, etc.
We are due for a complete checkup soon, but I was just wondering if this is
anything that might need more immediate attention. I have read some info
stating that this could be related to a spleen condition, but that it generally was
not as dangerous to the ferret as the procedures to correct it might be, and
usually was not that harmful.
This is definately overall growth and weight gain, and not something isolated
that could possibly be due to a tumor or something like that.
We carry our guys to a vet in New Orleans, La. (about 250 miles) to a vet
that specializes in ferrets, birds and other exotics. Unfortunately most local
vets don't have a lot of experience with ferrets, as we live in a fairly small
city, so I have not taken him to a vet yet...I would really rather wait and
let the specialist see him, so long as he is not in any danger in the meantime.
We plan to take them all down for a checkup in the next month or so.
Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks,
Jim & Kathy and the gang.
