I f a person looks in the FHL Archives at

http://fhl.sonic-weasel.org

or in the FML Archives at

http://listserv.cuny.edu/archives/ferret-search.html

it is easy to find many posts from highly knwledgeable and experiences vets saying that for most ferrets the disease risk is higher than the vaccine reaction risk.

Obviously, those with a history of reaction are different.

The risk especially goes up in bad years for canine distemper outbreaks in a person's area.

Not many people here will have seen canine distemper first hand. It is a neurological disease and a real horror. I have seen it in a friend's adopted dog who acquired it in the pound before she adopted it, so even though the dog immediately had a vet appointment she broke with it. It was one of the worst things I've seen in an animal.
