There are excellent reasons why vaccinations exist. They exist because the
disease they prevent is so very much worse.

Sukie makes an excellent point here - canine distemper is a horrible and
fatal disease and the risk of dying from it is a lot higher than the risk of dying
from the vaccine.

I want to mention that I reviewed my records over the past ten months or so
and found that the lot number mentioned (Fervac-D, FH01B) had a 20% reaction
rate, where the other lot numbers I'd used in that time had a cumulative
reaction rate of less than 3%. To me, that indicates that there may indeed be a
problem with the lot, and I encourage any of you who know of ferrets that have had
reactions (to this or any other vaccine!) to please make sure it is reported
to the manufacturer.

I'm not going to stop vaccinating against distemper - but the more knowledge
we have about potential problems the better.
