In light of these recent posts regarding distemper vaccinations, I would like
to ask the
group if the risk is greater for vaccination reactions, or greater for the
ferret getting
distemper?
In other words, can anyone (vets especially) tell me which they believe to be
the greater
risk?
That depends on the ferret's lifestyle and risk of exposure to the disease.
If we're talking about a five year old ferret that never leaves it's house,
whose owner never plays with other animals, and who doesn't live with or near
dogs, the risk is minimal and I would probably talk to the owner about whether
or not to vaccinate. But there is some risk, even in that situation.
If we're talking about the ferret that goes to the park, etc, then that
ferret needs to be kept vaccinated, regardless of age.
