Our ferret, Phoebe, has been receiving lupron shots once a month for the last 5
months, and we have given her all but the first one at home. Our vet wrote the
prescription, and we purchased the lupron from an on-line pharmacy for $320,
including shipping. We purchased the syringes, vials and sterilized water we needed
to mix and dilute it locally from a pharmacy for about $30.00. Our vet perpared the
lupron for us, and helped divide it into individual syringes, which we then took
home and froze. She gave Phoebe the first shot, and showed us how to do it, and
my husband and I have given her the rest. It is much easier with two of us, and
some ferretone for distraction purposes, but it is not dificult. The lupron we
purchased dilutes down to 36 monthy doses, which brings our price to only about
$10 per month. The vet would charge us $25.00 for us to bring Phoebe in and have
a vet tech give her the shot, so opted to go this route, and it is working out great for
us. It is also easier to arrange than having to take time off work to take her in to the
vet monthly. I do bring her to work with me the days I give her the shots so I can
keep an eye on her for any reaction or anything. I have a large carrier for her with a
litter box, food, water, etc. And we get to go to the park at lunch.
