If a ferret has seriously reacted to a specific vaccine we never again give that vaccine to that particular ferret. The rest DO get it because what vaccine a ferret reacts to can be highly individual and the vast majority simple never have reactions.

In our family if a ferret has a serious reaction to two vaccines we assume that some shared component in the matrix may be the blame and then that specific individual does not get vaccinated again. In our experience over 24 years, most ferrets who reacted to one vaccine did not also react to a second.

If a ferret has a serious, chronic medical problem we don't vaccinate unless it is known to be safe for thqat condition 9and the archives will help in that regard). For example: minor things like tail fur loss (which is usually dermal only when there is no loss elsewhere) do not stop us but if the ferret had lymphoma we would not vaccinate. Lymphoma presents another reason to not vaccinate, too -- due to the levels of steroids or chemotherapy used.

Obviously, the final call has to be up to the kknowledgeable treating vet who also knows the individual. No one else has as much information for making a call like that.
