Hello everybody,
There was a recently published article on vaccine
reactions in ferrets (JAVMA March 15,2005 p909-912).
In it the authors stated that the reaction rate when giving
just the rabies vaccine was 0.51%, when giving just the
distemper vaccine it was 1.0%, and when giving both the rabies
and distemper together it was 0.85% That is right, slightly
lower when both vaccines were giving together than when just
the distemper vaccine was giving, but these rates were not
significantly different.
Thus it does not lower the reaction rate or prevent reactions
when the vaccines are giving at different times. It only tells
you which vaccine the ferret reacted to, if it has a reaction.
Vaccine reactions most commonly consisted of vomiting and
diarrhea (52%) or just vomiting (31%).
Hope that clears up the confusion.
