If people are surprised that the rate could be about half of one percent (one in 200) for the rabies vaccine, and one percent (one in 100) for the distemper vaccines it may help to remember how many ferrets are likley to be represented on the list. Since we have a number of folks who run shelters, vets who see many ferrets, and also some breeders among us it is probably on the conservative side to say that the list represents perhaps about 7,500 living ferrets -- at a conservative guess of an average 5 ferrets per member.

That doesn't take into account that a number of members have had ferrets for enough years to also discuss past ferrets, a factor which would increase that total.

As has been pointed out, people don't post about things that go smoothly. They post about what goes wrong, so it gets noticed disproportionately.
