Please remember that different parts of the country have different prices. Just as a
home in UT might cost $200 thousand, the same home in the DC area would cost over
a million. I've heard of surgery prices ranging anywhere from $500-$2500. Just in my
area alone, one vet quoted me $500 for a simple surgery while another $900 for the
same. The one who quoted $900 had more experience and top of the line equipment
(cryo, laser, iso, etc). Prices vary, and I firmly believe that you usually "get what you pay
for". The bottom line though, is that surgery is probably the best treatment option for
an otherwise stable ferret, no matter how much that costs. My advice would be to treat
with meds and do some aggresive saving for surgery in a month or two. Of course I'm
not a vet, so your vet may have a different suggestion (talk with them and be honest
about your situation, there may be something they can do).
Take Care,
Moscha
