Off hand I can recall at least times that ferret ills or deaths have led to CO problems being found in homes. (In one case the ferret liked to sleep in a closet that was on the other side of the garage. Other homes had different problems.)

(I also can recall at least twice that ferret ills led to the discovery of leaky gas pipes to stoves, but that differs from the cherry red of carbon monoxide.)
