I am not at all a big fan of over the counter/pet store flea treatments since too many have been mentioned in relation to poisonings. The products vets sell are much safer.

Notice that when any product is used for ferrets typically the product will be labeled as being safe for kittens who likewise are very vulnerable to accidental poisoning. I'd personally greatly prefer that you have the vets identify the pest and then give them the vet write-ups on what works for ferrets to your ever trying anything over the counter on a ferret for parasites.
