Vicki, Vinegar has a pH of 3 so I'd be very leery about putting it on skin unless a vet said that I could, let alone getting it on more tender tissue like the anus.

Dr. Sue knows a lot more about these things than I ever will. As she says, make sure it is prep for kittens if you are forced to use something not form the vet.

Personally, I think that you are better off having the vets do an ID and then also give them what Dr.Sue wrote and those past vet posts I found for you. That way even a vet who is not used to treating ferrets should have the needed data handy. You could even ask for a call-back, discuss it with one of those non-ferret vets to find out if there might be some more info needed and post asking for it before you go in.

I want to note that the poisoning things that I found virtually always involved someone using a DOG preparation or collar on a cat or a ferret. It sounds like dogs are more tolerant of the compounds involved.

Parasites can spread disease and even when they don't they can cause anemia.
