Subject: cat eats ferret food

I feed my ferret "totally ferret" which is left out for him when he is out of his cage - which is really most of the time. my cat who is almost 2 years old JUST started helping himself to the ferret food.
1) is this healthy for him?
2) how would I get him to stop if not?
3) he is overweight - would this food cause him to get heavier?
