I have a 6 year old ferret with a rather long and involved medical history. Two years ago, he had bilateral adrenal surgery in Florida. Most, if not all of the adrenal tissue was removed on both sides. The biopsy was negative for cancer, although the Vet thinks the lab may have had a false negative. Elmo's hair did not grow back on his hind quarters or tail.
Two and a half months ago we moved to NYC. Elmo became rather ill and it turned out to be an abdominal infection. He had a full work up at the time - x-rays, bloodwork, abdomoninal scan - the works ($863 for 6 hours at the Vet); everything was normal, except for some liver enzymes that were off, probably due to the infection. The new Vet upped his preg dosage and gave him antibiotics. He got over the infection, but now his hair has started to grow back dramatically. Could he be having sudden regrowth in the adrenal that was not picked up on either abdominal scan (he's had two in the last six months)? The Vet doesn't think that it is the higher preg. Should I have yet another abdominal scan? The vet told me he is not a good candidate for surgery even if there is a new tumor.
