Remember that there are compounds which have been tested for safety and then there are those compounds which have not been tested for safety.

Also, there are compounds which work on the vulnerabilities which the invertebrate parasites have that either do not apply or only slightly apply to the mammals on whom they are being used. There are many differences between invertebrates and vertebrates but targeting those differences is not necessarily as inexpensive as using the over the counter more general poisons which have been cautioned against.

Usually, with such a question when I recall that the topic has been addressed by vets in the past I do an archives search but I am recovering from a recent injury to one of my eyes right now and don't know if I am ready to try that type of rapid skimming yet for a large category, so I will tell you some short cuts for your own search:

If you go to the archives at
http://fhl.sonic-weasel.org
you will see that the archives are searchable.

You may search using anything from only one of the boxes to all of them. In this case you will likely want to start only with the box that covers things contained in the message. Notice the easy searching instructions Pam and Eric have provided.

When your results come up do not be intimidated by the large number of posts. If you look to your left you will see that you can usually pick out who is a vet using that author column. This will let you preferentially pick out the posts that are most likely to fill your needs. Click one open and skim. If it does not fill your needs just used your browser's back arrow to return to the last page with your search results and pull up the next likely one. Once you get used to it you will find that it goes rapidly and you will get ideas which may lead you to re-searching in a more narrow category.
