Hi, My female 2 yr old ferret, Rayna, just went in for her distemper vaccination today.
About 2 wks ago, she had her rabies done, and she had a slight reaction to it (vomiting
about 12 hrs later). So just as a precautionary measure, the vets decided to give her
the distemper (Fervac), in half doses, 1/2 in the am, then the other 1/2 4 hrs later.
She had a reaction, vomiting and diarrhia, they gave her epi and a steroid shot. He
said he doesnt feel comfortable giving her the other 1/2 of the fervac. He said another
option would be to try the Galaxy. I'm not sure what to do. I have dogs, they're all
UTD on everything all the time, its not them that I'm worried about, but I do foster
dogs for a rescue group... which I will stop in a heartbeat if it will in anyway bring
danger to Rayna (thats a question for my vet)... But I am told that even myself going
into a petstore, I can track distemper in on my shoes or something. Any one have any
advice? I'm assuming she will not be
protected with only half the dosage. But should I try the Galaxy? Or wait until the
Purevax to be available in anther 5/6 months or so? I'm not sure what to do. Thanks
for any input or advice.
Andrea
