Hi, Megan,

Why isn't exploratory surgery being considered for
Nike. He's obviously in serious trouble so you have
little to lose and maybe a whole lot to gain. My
ferret Podo has insulinoma surgery when he was eight.
He lived for almost two more years after a successful
surgery and a somewhat difficult recovery. His
quality of life afterwards was excellent and he acted
like he was younger again.

In a case like this our former vet would go in, look
what was up, and if there was a good chance for
recovery he'd do surgery. If not we'd simply decide
not to let the ferret wake up.

Good luck to you and to Nike!

All the best,
Caity and the fabulous five
