Scotch is a 4 year old that came into our rescue about 1.5 months ago. He s=
eemed fine up until about a week ago. I noticed that he was pawing fiercly =
at his mouth and that there was vomit in his cage. I got him out and (he wa=
s dehydrated) and thought maybe if I gave him pepto he would be ok, I thoug=
ht upset tummy. It was after vet hours and I wanted to give it the benefit =
of the doubt before rushing off to emergency clinic. As soon as the pepto w=
as swallowed it came back out projectile. Off we went to ER and they xrayed=
him and gave him subq fluids. The doc there couldn't find anything obvious=
, no foreign body (whew) but a possible mass above the left kidney. They sa=
id to not feed him for 12 hours (ouch)gave him reglan and baytril and sent =
us on our merry way. He still hadn't improved by morning and was instantly =
vomiting up the gravy even with the reglan so I thought it HAD to be a bloc=
kage. I took him to regular vet, along with xrays and she said the mass was=
n't a mass but she thought his right kidney looked strange on the xray. Als=
o, he was very sensitive when she palpatated his right side. They said it a=
lmost has to be kidney cancer and sent us on our way. He isn't vomiting wit=
h the reglan and gravy anymore, but still refuses to eat on his own and is =
always close to dehydrated. I am concerned. He is adrenal, or so we suspect=
, but the vet claims that surgery to find the cause of it all isn't recomme=
nded. I am lost. He is a sweet guy and I hate watching him suffer, but, I d=
on't want to have him put to sleep based on "could be's".

Any suggestions? I read in the book Ferrets Rabbits and Rodents that vomiti=
ng isn't usually associated with renal failure or kidney problems. Sigh....=
I wish I were a vet!!
