My vet says ferrets have such tough skins that they rarely get mosquito bites. But Judith Bell, DVM, PhD, mentionined in "The Pet Ferrett Owner's Manual" that it only takes 1 hearworm to cause heart troubles in ferrets. With mosquito season now in full bloom in N.E. Ohio, should I be insisting on heartworm medication or is it really a minimal risk? And if medication is reccomended, what should I ask for?
