One of the FHL members that I've been in communication with said that her

Dr. said it's part of a routine annual exam for ferrets. I've never heard of
this.
I recommend an annual (or even more often for some animals) stool check for
internal parasites - some can be spread by fleas, for example, so even an
indoor ferret has the possibility of getting them. If owners feed a raw diet or
the ferret gets something by mistake, that can also be a source of parasites.
In a heartworm endemic area I would also recommend an annual heartworm check
for all animals, even those on preventive.
