Hi,

Sorry for the late response. I've been way busy.

Our Nyssa has lymphoma and has a limited ability to
tolerate prednisolone. Too much and she gets diarrhea
and a little more and she starts showing symptoms of
ulcers. Our vet prescribed .05ml Maalox. I'm not
sure what the dosage would be with Pepto Bismol or if
there is an advantage to using Maalox rather than
Pepto.

When Nyssa's dosage of pred clearly wsan't helping
enough we added an injectible cortisol to get around
this issue. Our vet in Ohio used vetalog while the
one in North Carolina switched to depo medrol, which
seems to work a bit better and last longer.

In any case Nyssa is still very low energy. I find
that simply changing her environment and interacting
with her in ways she likes is the best thing for
keeping her interested in being awake and doing
things. So far we've managed to keep Nyssa happy for
eight months since diagnosis, the longest we've ever
managed with a ferret with lymphoma. We only
occasionally have to use a pain killer (torbugesic)
and then only in a very small dosage (.05ml) which
isn't enought to have a sedative effect.

Good luck!

All the best,
Caity and the fantastic five
