Subject: Enlarged spleen??

Otto is a rescue of unknown age...best estimate is around 6 years old; he's been with me for three and 1/2 years. He's always been a quieter ferret, not as hyper as the others, and that hasn't changed. Besides a propensity toward ear infections, he's been in good health and has never had surgery or been under anesthetic.

Over the past couple weeks he has ballooned...his belly has gotten huge. He's still eating well, and is actually more active than usual. He has no hair loss, aggression, hind leg weakness, tremors/siezures, or other symptoms.

I have a vet appointment this week, but was wondering how common enlarged spleens are and what experience anyone has had with it? I've been reading about it, and feel like their's some mixed feelings about it. Do vet usually remove the spleen or leave it in? How common is a rupture when the spleen is left in? Anything else I should know in advance before seeing my vet?
