Dr. Sue's answer is based upon far more knowledge than mine.

What I know is this: back when I worked with primates a serious bite not only got infection control but also a tetanus shot to be safest. Now-a-days, that may be relaxed due to more knowledge. Also, members of Carnivora have cleaner mouths than your typical primate. I spent a lot of time soaking in Betadine and had to take some serious antibiotics some times including to save one hand (successful but it was a haul).

You know, unless you have some health reason to not do so you could always just call and make an appointment for a tetanus booster without saying why you are getting a booster, too... How long has it been since you had one?

This reminds me; it's time for us to get our boosters. Shouldn't go longer than 10 years for that one.

It's awkward to have a human medical question here since most people here do not have a human medical background. Perhaps some of the ones who do will say something and mention their qualifications. Meanwhile, remember that just as your ferret-expert veterinary professional is tone one best equip to make vet care choices for your ferrets, so, too, are your own human-health medical professionals the best ones to decide about questions of your own health.
