Hello John,.

Great to hear you are helping this ferret.

Your vet is right at this point to not say 100% adrenal. Malnutrition
combined with stress can cause hair loss at any age. Here at ferret wise we
have in the past received 6 week old ferrets with splotches of hair missing
from the back - kidney area due to lack of nutrition.
Has the vet been able to determine the age by dental exam yet? Or do you
know third hand what the age of the ferret is?

Depending on the age of the ferret it *may* be adrenal but it *may* be a
nutritional issues, in any case I would NOT recommend surgery unless
absolutely necessary until you are sure her system is up to it.

In the meantime blood panel through UTenn will give a good indication if
the hair loss is adrenal related. While she is gaining weight and building
her immune system back you may want to have the vet run that blood
test. You also might want to consider a melatonin implant - I am sure her
system could use the benefits right now.

Wishing you all the best.
