Hi folks,

I know it is inappropriate to ask only the vets, however, I need to fax the
regimen for Helicobactor to my vet.

My ferret recently had a gall stone removed. A liver biopsy indicated
portal hepatitis. To make certain this doesn't turn into something serious,
my vet would like to treat her with a combination of pepto, flagyl, and
panmycin - the regimen for Helicobactor. I mentioned I'd read of a
different regimen which is more easily tolerated by ferrets. I believe it
is the amoxy/biaxin/carafate combination. Of course, he wanted information,
resources, etc. to back up my suggestion.

First, would the amoxy/biaxin/carafate combination offer the same results as
the pepto/flagyl/panmycin in this case (portal hepatitis)? If so, would one
of the vets mind posting here the exact dosages, frequency, length of
treatment, etc. so I could fax it to my vet. Also, any other information
such as why this newer course is better would be most helpful. If the
flagyl combination is a better way to go, I'm going to need some serious
help getting my ferret to take it. Only one dose and she's refusing to come
near me.

If you need to email me personally, please feel free. Thank you in advance.
If I've violated any rules of the forum, please accept my apologies.
