It's my understanding that bismuth (pepto bismol) has some antibacterial effects besides the soothing action. Sucralfate (Carafate) binds to the surface of ulcerated stomach tissue, protecting the ulcer from stomach acids, promoting healing, allowing less painful eating, etc., and it also ihibits pepsin, an enzyme that breaks down proteins. I don't believe Carafate has any effect on H. mustelae, but I'm not a doctor.
