I can't stress enough how bad nutrical as a regular diet. It is full of sug=
ar and any ferret with sugar issues should only have it in an emergency--li=
ke a sugar crash on the way to the vet. The same goes for Ferret Vite, etc.=
For otherwise healthy guys, it makes a great treat in small doses, and for=
starving guys it's a great way to load up on calories. My elderlies are do=
ing well on AD, but it was such a chore getting Buddy to like it, that I no=
w give small doses to the younger guys, too, as a treat. That way, when the=
time comes I won't have to be forcing them to try something new. Only one =
of the kids seems to dislike AD right now, but I'll be trying various meat =
baby foods if he doesn't come around. Oils other than Ferretone can be give=
n in larger doses because they don't have the taurine and are just as full =
of calories and good fatty acids. (I don't know about nut oils--so many hum=
ans are allergic that I'm afraid to try them.) All of mine have gotten to r=
eally love the hand feeding process, too, which gives them needed bonding t=
ime now that they're not playing as much. I'm really not sure how much of t=
he credit goes to the AD and how much to the simple ritual. At any rate I r=
eally believe that holding them and petting regularly during feeding is imp=
ortant for my elders, especially the one who has taken to isolating herself=
from the gang.
