Subject: how to tell if prostate is enlarged

My 7 y.o. male ferret does not take medication for adrenal disease. However, he did have insulinoma surgery about 6 months ago and his hair never really grew back (adrenals were checked at this time). His fur is also thinning on his back (not the classic tops of feet/base of tail). My vet has said that he probably has some level of adrenal disease but not to worry about it unless he starts having itching, etc.

I suspect he might be having some trouble urinating. My vet felt the ferret's prostate and said it was not swollen.

Is manually feeling the prostate a reliable way to know if there is a risk of blockage? Should this ferret be on Lupron? My vet is very good, ferret knowledgeable but is also very laid back.

Thanks in advance.
