Two (and I wonder about another) of my guys have insulinoma. Because I live=
far from any real city, my local vet is really good about consulting with =
an actual ferret vet a couple of hours away. My problem is that this vet, t=
hough good, seems to view operations as a last resort. (Last year I had to =
practically force him to do an obvious adrenalectomy, but he seems to have =
done a great job.) And neither my local vet nor the ferret vet is equipped =
for microscopic surgery, which I understand would be required for pancreati=
c tumors. (I have been given to understand that insulinoma is caused by pan=
creatic rumors.) Yogi (5.5 ish) seems to be doing pretty well on pred and d=
iet, though she does get brief stumbles and bouts of uncharacteristic stupi=
dity now and then. Buddy (7-8?) has these problems less--the vet caught his=
problem earlier--but is also less active and less social, which worries me=
some. Butter--well, I'll ask about him in a bit, maybe a separate post. Fr=
om what I've read, it seems that surgery really is the way to go. So now I =
need to find a vet who IS equipped and willing to work on them. Does anyone=
have recommendations? I live in Gallup, New Mexico. Albuquerque is the clo=
sest city, but Flagstaff AZ is also pretty close. Phoenix is doable. I thin=
k the Durango (CO) area isn't too far, either.
