Hi. This is my first time posting so please help me along.

I have a five year old chocolate ferret who is in great health, but just one major issue...he has a tumor located near his heart. I was wondering if I could get your thoughts on it, please.

Here is are the results from his second aspirate (he also had an ultrasound done).

Cytology- Microscopic description- the submitted smear is mildly cellular and consists of mast cells and mature lymphocytes, with occasional macrophages, neutrophils, eosinophils, and clusters of mesothelial cells. Background is proteinaceous and mildly hemodiluted, with scattered ruptured cells.

Microscopic Findings: chest mass, intrathoracic. Few lymphocytes and mast cells.

Comment: lesion did not exfoliate well. Mature lymphocytes and mast cells may be associated a thymoma (if this is an extensive mediastinal mass lesion), a nonspecific chronic inflammation , or a reactive hyperplastic lymph node. Correlate findings with the clinical presentation of this mass.

Thanks, Kristin (not vet)
