Here is basic information on Diazoxide:
http://www.drugs.com/cons/Diazoxide.html
(BTW, we have used it when heart disease was present in two ferrets without noticing problems, but note the current caution on the site since perhaps combining use with heart disease would not always be a safe thing to attempt.)
How well Diazoxide works very GREATLY among ferrets. For some it may as well be water; whereas for others it works incredibly well -- to the point where steroid doses can be reduced to a large extent and still have the same level of control.
Because it varies so much, and because it is expensive it pays to do a trial run with a smaller amount than you normally would order. The way to get it most reasonably from our experience is to buy it compounded from a compounding pharmacy which does a lot of ferret business. A number of these, including the one we use here in NJ ship, too. You can find a list of compounding pharmacies that have worked with ferrets in the FHL Files section Reference Shelf, or go directly to:

There are past posts on the use of Diazoxide in the FHL Archives.
