Well, ferrets don't get colds. (Don't take my word for it; read the past vet posts, including those of veterinary pathologist, Bruce Williams -- since he is pathologist -- in the archives.)
Coughs and weight loss both say to me that it would make sense to have the vet see this and to have a chest x-ray as part of that. Please, also look at coughs in the archives.
Hopefully, it is just all something easy like an allergy or like bacterial sinus infection which has not moved lower in the respiratory tract, but given the cough and weight loss you need to get a handle on this now.
