Fernando is a sweet 5 yr old boy that recently lost his companion and his home. Fernando is very weak, anemic, and walks only a couple steps before laying down and resting. His vet appt was on Friday, complete with sonagram. Fernando has a huge growth in his abdomen with a blood supply flow that appears larger than the vena cava flow. Our vet was unable to find what the growth was attached to. It's huge and the edges are well defined. It is not part of the spleen. His spleen is enlarged but not grossly. The problem is that the growth is taking his blood and leaving him severely anemic.
To our knowledge, we are out of options for this sweet sweet boy and surgery is scheduled for Friday.
Please, if anyone knows of other options, email me before Friday. I'm very afraid that surgery will be Fernando's demise and it's tearing me up.
Fernando will only have been with us for 3 weeks but he's not getting better and it's breaking my heart to watch him struggle.
That growth continues to steal his precious life's blood as long as it is in him. Our only hope is that our vet will be able to remove it safely and Fernando will be with us for many more years. He's had a very horrid life before us and I so want to make sure he knows what it is to be a ferret and what true love and care is.
