Hi Tara,
I am not a vet by I have had 2 ferrets with insulinoma. From my
understanding, frequent, small high-protein meals work best. I make Bob
Church's Chicken Gravy recipe which is a lot of work, but has a whole
lot of protein in it. A google search should be able to find it. I
also mix in kibble with that. My ferret takes Pediapred from the
syringe with Pet Tinic or Ferretone. It is usually best to give the
pred with food to ease tummy upset. Treats should really not be given
if they have any sweets at all in it. Also, you should keep a bottle of
Karo Syrup on hand in case your ferret develops seizure activity due to
low blood glucose. If this should happen, rub a little on her gums and
when she regains consciousness feed her a high protein meal, then off to
the vet ASAP. Visit miamiferret.org. They have a wonderful insulinoma
faq there. My ferret was diagnosed with insulinoma when she was 6 and I
was able to keep her going until 8.5 years of age.
Best of luck
Marissa
