Hi folks,

I just read this response regarding Pred. dosing. What worries me about
this method (squirting) of dosing is the potential for the ferret to choke -
aspirate.

When giving my ferrets Pred. I draw up the Pred. first, then a tiny bit of
Ferretone. The syringe has Ferretone inside of it, w/the Pred., as well as
a bit on the outside. I have both hands on that tiny thing, slowly
releasing drop by drop so that I have complete control. The ferret just
licks the medicine from the end of the syringe. My ferrets have always
loved getting their Pred. If mixing Pred. w/Ferretone affects the
absorption, efficacy, etc.of the medicine, please let me know.

When giving something like Flagyl, I have to scruff and use a dropper style.
Drop by drop the medicine gets through the side of their clenched little
teeth. I make sure I massage their faces after a few drops to try to
maximize medicine intake. Of course dosing Flagyl is more prayer than
anything else!! You folks know dosing even the tiniest bit can be an all
day project.

Mind you, I am not a vet and could, for all I know, be doing things wrong.
But, I believe animals (including us) can choke quite easily if something is
squirted directly into the back of the throat. No flaming, insulting, or
offense intended. If I misread something or am out of line, my sincerest
apologies.
