Hi,
Not unlike humans (to use your words) ferrets come in
all shapes and sizes. We had one named Kodo who
topped 2kg (4.45 lbs.) and was always big in every
respect: long, muscular, heavy. He was also pretty
high energy up until about age nine. He would bounce
rather than run and it was hysterical to watch. He
could jump and climb and keep up with the thinner
weasels and it didn't seem to slow him down.
I do think it is possible for a ferret to be truly
obese but I haven't had one like that yet. If in
doubt talk to your vet. Our vet had said that if Kodo
got any heavier we'd put him on a diet. Spring came
and he had his usual seasonal weight loss so we didn't
worry about it. The next winter our vet didn't have
us do anything special for him even though he had put
the weight back on.
All the best,
Caity and the fantastic five
