By no means did I mean to stir up an argument about this never ending debate
about raw meat, whole prey, kibble, etc.
Michael, first of all I believe it's usually whole prey animals that are given (ie, mice,
chicks, etc). Most folks I know par boil chicken meat, turkey meat, veal, etc. before
giving it to their pets. But, I'm sure some just feed raw, too. That would be for
others to respond to.
There is a huge difference with our human metabolism, digestive tracts, immune
systems in comparison with our ferrets. There's things our dogs, cats, ferrets eat
that we won't eat. I'm not going to drink a bottle of fish oil or mineral oil because
my ferret loves ferretone or ferretlax which is a petrolium base. Do you know what
petrolium base products such as a tiny portion of vaseline can do to an infant if
digested? It would kill them. Besides, what do you think wild ferrets, wild animals
eat? They don't eat kibble fed by humans.
Again, I am by no means trying to stir the pot, I was just trying to help the person
posting saying that I condone it but can't help her. It sounded like she'd already
done her homework and wanted advice. I was merely expressing mine.
My cat used to rip apart birds like quail, etc. I didn't like it when she'd bring her
prize bird home to me, but it's part of their natural instinct. Animals digestive habits
vary greatly from humans. You will not see me ripping open a bag of Totally ferret
and start trying to keep it down because my ferrets eat it.
