I had a comparable illness in a 10 month jill last December. She had a tem=
p of 104.6, weakness and lethargy, could not use her hind legs, would not e=
at or drink, but did crawl to the litter pan (stools were normal). A CBC l=
ater that morning showed an elevated WBC and mild dehydration. Since neith=
er the vet or I had any idea what the problem could be, she was not put on =
antibiotics but given supportive care only. She was willing to eat and dri=
nk from a syringe, so was given as much baby chicken or turkey as she was w=
illing to eat and as much water as she would drink every 2-3 hours. Her te=
mp was over 105 for the next couple days, began dropping the third day, and=
was back to normal by the 6th day. She began walking, though wobbly, on t=
he 4th day, and was eating and drinking on her own on the 5th day. She was=
playing with her sister again at that time and was completely recovered on=
the 7th day after her illness began. I doubt it was DIM but have no idea =
what it could have been. None of the other ferrets showed any sign of illn=
ess.
