I wonder if the gravy makes sense or not once kidney disease is present? =
Current recommendations for members of Carnivora who have kidney disease ar=
e so often now to go lower protein and increase Omega 3 Fatty acids (as in =
fish oil which is made from whole fish rather than cod liver oil) and lower=
ing Omega 6 fatty acids (as in veg oils).

We have had little personal experience with kidney disease. Spot had it se=
condary to kidney damage caused by dehydration in ECE. Hilbert had bilater=
al hydronephrosis due to complications from his combo of cystine stones and=
a bladder diverticulum. Morney also gets cystine stones on a higher prote=
in diet but we caught hers before any kidney complications arose.

Also, the papers of Dr. Scott Brown (and Dr. Murray's response about them i=
n the FHL Archives which reads:

>Omega 6 fatty acids (vegetable oils) increase the production
>of the eicosanoids, increase glomerular hypertension, and
>speed up the progression to end-stage kidney failure (death).

>Ferret, and Marshall's ferret food all have fish oil in them.
>Hope that helps,

has two low protein make-at-home recipes (for cats and dogs with kidney dis=
ease) but I do not know how good or bad they are or if they are applicable =
for ferrets with kidney disease

One thing we learned with Hilbert is that the urine specific gravity number=
is incredibly important for ferrets.
