3 weeks ago I experienced my 3rd CD vaccine reaction in my group of ferrets.
I had waited almost an hour at the vets, and when all seemed OK, headed
home, a 45 minuite drive.

Decided aboult half way to check everyone just to be sure. Found one of the
guys semi comatose, eyes swelled shut, and beet red everywhere you could see
skin.

Back to the vet, where we spent the next two hours.
I now will need to pre-treat two for CD vacc, and one for rabies and CD
vacc.

This led me to try and research a safer vaccine.

There is a vet here that has been using one of the combo CD vaccs on ferrets
for years , with no reactions.

On the miamiferret site, an article mentions to never use a combo CD
vaccine, but it does not say why.

Is it just because it has not been approved for use in ferrets? Or because
it doesn't give protection?

I'm at the point I would not vaccinate these ferrets again. My other
reactors, are pretreated. They have no imidiate reaction, but are most
certainly feeling ill for several days afterwards.

However, as a shelter volunteer, and one that goes to the local county/city
shelter to pick up the ferrets on death row at least twice a month, how on
earth could I possably take that risk. I must protect my own ferrets, and am
trying to find a safer way to do that.

I know some on this list have had ferrets practacly forever, does anyone
KNOW WHY one should not use a combo CD vacc that has no reported reactions
(at least to this vet).
