Thanks for this information, and the good wishes, Dave! That's a very
useful tip. Luckily, we've checked her mouth and her teeth and gums
look completely calm - no sign of any redness or irritation or damage to
teeth.
Our vet has now managed to get suitable medication on order, which will
arrive tomorrow, and he said he was impressed with the quality of advice
given on the sites he was directed to by this group's members.
As regards ECG and ultrasound, he's going to try with the meds first, as
he's reluctant to do anything more which would require sedation, and he
already reckons he has a lot of information about her now from the
near-daily (!) visits and the X-ray. He says there is no arrthymia and
her heart is gradually picking up speed (at least I think that's what he
said - there's a lot to take in at each visit).
Today has been busy, as she's been on and off her food so that has
required a fair bit of ingenuity and experimentation with dry food,
fresh fish, Ferretone and Ferretvite. A mixture of soaked Vitalin
ferret food and about half-and-half Ferretvite was very successful
around lunchtime, but it was hard to get her to eat even Ferretvite
alone by teatime, so we went back to the vet again and he gave her more
injections to tide her over till the new medication comes. Tomorrow
we'll try the chicken baby food!
She's sleeping most of the time, but seems to be content and not to be
in any pain when awake, and I've found that she sleeps happily in my lap
while I'm working at my desk. I have to be in the office tomorrow, so
I'm going to set the alarm a couple of times tonight to make sure she
eats, then arrange for a friend to drop by and check on her tomorrow
before my daughter gets back home mid-afternoon.
I'm noting these developments down as I go along, in case the case
history is helpful to another member in the future, but if people get
fed up with lots of emails from me, just let me know and I'll be careful
not to swamp the list.
Cheers,
Kay
