Hi All,

Here's my dilemma/question...

I have a 7 year old ferret. She seemed to be gaining lots of weight and being
lethargic. We ran a full bloodwork panel, urinalysis, and glucose test. We found out
her glucose was 330 and she had a uti. We treated the uti with Amoxi and treated
the diabetes with 1.5 units of Humulin N every 24 hours. After 10 days her glucose
seemed to climb to 400. We increased the frequency to every 12 hours. After 10
more days her glucose was still climbing and she was still gaining weight. Her
glucose ended up around 440. Finally we increased the dose to 2 units every 12
hours.

She continued to gain more weight and still did not want to get out and play. So we
did x-rays and another glucose. The last glucose test was 174 and we found
nothing but fat in the x-rays. (we have not rechecked to make sure the uti is gone)

Now, we don't know what else to do except separate her out and feed her 3 times a
day. (do not free feed). Misty eats Wysong Archetypal 2 & TF Senior mixed.

We also did a fructosamine and found her sugar has been regulated over the last 2
weeks. Other than hoping the glucose is going down with the insulin, her weight is
a big problem.

What else should we do? Should we try Hill's DM? Do you have anyother suggestions
for feeding, insulin, etc.?

If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know!

Thanks,
Michele
