I know exploratory surgery in the hands of a very experienced surgeon would
be most diagnostic and safe. Yes age is an issue but stabilizing the Blood
glucose and getting her in the best shape will help. Personally I haven't
used the panel much my clients usu prefer surgery andcost is often
prohibitive. The reason I mention it is any other endocrine imbalance can
throw a wrench in the blood glucose or diabetes. We don't try to regulate
an intact animal, and the way adrenal often works in ferrets it could cause
all the signs of an intact female.

It is a tough call and certainly surgery with biopsy would be best and you
could eval the pancreas at the same time and biopsy it if needed. I know
not having a direct answer is hard but you have to put it all together and
decide and without being there I can't help make that decision any easier.
See what your vet is comfortable with and then go from there. Write me off
list if need be to continue. Take care and best of luck.

Dr. Sue
