With such a marked response to sugars insulinoma is the likely culprit.

It is funny what a strong effect vocabulary and beliefs can have. Yes, there are still vets in some parts of the world who think that ferrets there don't get one thing or another. In both parts of the UK and here there are vets who think that ferrets around them don't get ADV. A funny story: I know someone whose ferret looked like ADV might be possible. The person mentioned that and the vet said that it didn't exist there. Then the person mentioned a term which in some areas is used instead of ADV but refers to the exact same illness. The vet replied that, yes, they saw a decent bit of that! LOL!

Until your ferret can be stabilized with the proper meds, Prednisolone and maybe Diazoxide, you will need to continue giving sugars for your ferret's safety based upon the level of symptoms you describe. Once the meds are in place you will want to stop using them and go high protein for the diet unless some aspect of your ferret's health contraindicates that.

There are some ferret groups which keep lists of veterinarians there; I know that at least one of them is listed in the Critical References section of the IFC site, and I have noticed UK vets elsewhere -- I think in some mainly U.S. vet lists, or some mainly U.S. ferret shelter lists, or both.
