Only you know what is best for you and also what you can financially
afford. If it were me- and I had money to pay for it- then I would not
hesitate in getting him to a specialist ASAP. If you can't get the
specialist today perhaps you have a veterinary teaching hospital in your
state--for example Michigan State University- College of Veterinary
Medicine-small animal clinic ER- if so call them - see if someone that
is ferret knowledgeable is available. It may be a drive to get to a Vet
teaching hospital- perhaps you live by the state line of another state
that would have the Vet Teaching hospital closer to you. After I saw the
specialist or the vet school (with a vet that is very ferret
KNOWLEDGEABLE") and IF they told me things are extremely bleak and Toby
is in extreme pain or will/is suffer(ing)- I would be thinking about
helping him to the Rainbow Bridge.

BUT THEN YOU ARE NOT ME!! Listen to yourself- What is YOUR GUT (or
your Heart) telling you? It is hard especially when he is doing poorly-
you start feeling- gee what is the point he is not improving- I start
feeling that way with my Luke he is sometimes very very lethargic and
other times he perks up so I am an emotional yo yo of worry and relief.

Do what you think is best- you and Toby have my prayers.
