Remember that Slippery Elm can interfere with iron absorption some so you may not want to give it to a ferret with anemia, and it causes miscarriages in mammals (studies in '73 and '99) so don't give it to a pregnant ferret. Ah, what would I do without the _PDF for Herbal Medicines, 3rd edition_? Mostly it is starches, large amounts of mucilage, a small tannin component, some steroids, and some sesquiterrpenes. Rigorous study is missing, but there also are no known contraindications and just the cautions above.
