Hi, Janine, and everyone else,

Ferretvite is something that I have used on skinny,
recovering ferrets. It is full of sugars and empty
calories and is not something I would give a healthy
ferret. It has bene theorized that excess carbs and
sugars could be a contributing factor in the
development of insulinoma.

Furotone, Ferretone, and Linatone are all essentially
the same thing: liquified animal fat fortified with
vitamins. It's a coat supplement. Every ferret seems
to love the stuff. We use it as an extra special
treat and to disguise medications. In limited
quantities it's fine. We give no more than a few
drops as a treat no more than a couple of times in a
day, more often just once.

"Duck soup" is a generic term that doesn't refer to a
specific product AFAIK. I do make Bob Church's
Chicken Gravy, which is probably the best such recipe
in terms of nutritional value. It does contain both
Linatone/Ferretone and Nutrical, which is similar to
Ferretvite. We give it as a supplemental food or treat
to our older ferrets, and in very limited quanitities
to the young one so that they think of it as a special
treat and will want it when they need it. See:

We've never used VitaSol. If you are feeding high
quality ferret food your ferret should be getting all
the vitamins they need already. I'd only add
additional supplements after talking to the vet.

All the best,
Caity and the fantastic five
