10 days of antibiotics is enough for common bacterial pneumonia.
You are saying you treated with antibiotics for a month?
If this is an atypical infection, if this is something else in the lungs
then further testing
should be done.
The one ferret that has it twice, consider further
investigation into the organism causing the infection. How was it
diagnosed
again if there was no second chest xray, by listening to the ferret?
Could there be some other reason the ferret's lungs don't sound clear?
Is the white blood cell count high indicating a bacterial infection?
Is there a high fever? What temp?
Is the ferret coughing? Nasal discharge? Eating well? Playing?
All you indicated was that the ferret was 'shakey" and maybe had a fever.
More information would help. The actual organism in their stools,
the actual antibiotic they are taking. The way the pneumonia was
diagnosed,
the other tests done. IF this is a case of pneumonia that is not going
away
despite one month of antibiotics then either you have the wrong
antibiotic-but
true bacterial pneumonia I would think the ferret would be very ill, high
white count, high fever, coughing, trouble breathing after a month,
or this is an atypical organism ( fungal, mycobacterial, etc) or not
pneumonia.
ADV tested?
You may want to consider a second opinion by another vet that treats a
lot
of ferrets.
I am not a vet, but those are just some of my thoughts.
