Hi, Tara, and everyone else,
Our two longest lived ferrets were origianlly lab
animals and they weren't neutered until they were
sexually mature. Our vet felt their long life and
overall good health was, at least in part, attributed
to the fact that they were not neutered as kits.
Both Podo and Kodo had health problems later in life
(as in age seven and a half or later).
I wish there were a way to postpone spaying and
neutering for all domestic ferrets but I think the
best we can hope for is to forbid shipment below 8 or
10 weeks old and hopefully push back surgery a couple
of weeks that way.
